Jurk, patroon, blij
hoi hoi,
ondanks (of dankzij?) alle pijn en stress van de knie (zie een eerder blogbericht) heb ik in de afgelopen weken me af en toe nog eens kunnen zetten aan mijn hobby. Naaien. Kleding wel te verstaan. Sommige projecten lagen al even te wachten tot ik er aan zou beginnen. Andere projecten lagen te wachten tot ik ze afmaakte. 1 daarvan moet echt in etappes. Niet omdat het nu zo’n groot project is, maar meer omdat ik me er niet echt toe kan zetten…. Daarover in een later bericht meer…..

despite (or thanks to) all the pain and stress of the knee (see earlier blog post), in the past couple of weeks I done some sewing. Clothing that is. Some projects were already here waiting for me to begin. Other projects were waiting for me to finish them. One of them really in stages. Not because it’s such a big project, but more because I can’t get it ready. I don’t know why… More about that in a later post …..
Een ander project was een zomerjurk voor Dochterlief. We hadden een heel mooi stofje gevonden online en toen moest daar nog even een patroon bij gezocht worden. Lang leve Facebook. Er zijn verschillende groepen in het Nederlands, waar je zowel gratis patronen als betaalde patronen kunt vinden. Maar er zijn ook Engelse groepen. En in een van die groepen kwam ik een hele gave tegen. De Sahara dress van BellaSunshineDesign. Bingo. Dat moest hem worden. Tja, beschrijving in het Engels. Nu is mijn Engels niet erg slecht, maar als het op vaktermen aankomt moet ik altijd even slikken. Gelukkig staan er in de beschrijving ook wel wat plaatjes. En met Google en youtube kom je echt een heel eind. Maar om nou gelijk dit patroon in mijn mooie stofje te maken, zonder dat ik exact weet hoe de maat valt, leek me een beetje tricky… Dochterlief mocht de reststoffen stapel induiken. Daar kwam de kattenstof uit en een effen stofje… Dikke prima, gaan we maken.

Another project was a summer dress for my daughter. We had found a very nice fabric online and we had some time searc for the right pattern. Thanks Facebook. There are different groups in Dutch, where you can find both free and paid patterns patterns. But there are also English groups. And in one of those groups, I came across a very cool pattern. Sahara dress from Bella Sunshine Design. Bingo. That had to be it. Well description in English. Now my English is not very bad, but when it comes to terminology, I always swallow. Fortunately, the description also comes wiht some pictures. And with Google and youtube you’ll certainly get along nicely. But to make this pattern in my beautiful fabric, without exactly knowing what the size is, to me seemed a bit tricky… Daughter could dive into the fabricstash. Out she came with an orange knit and a kittycatjersey. Allright. Let’s do this!
Patroon geprint, geplakt en patroon delen uitgeknipt. Toen de rok, dit was een cirkelrok zonder naad. Oh oh…. Je voelt hem aankomen: Niet genoeg stof…. Hoe ik hem ook zou vouwen, ik kreeg het niet voor elkaar. Dat was nou juist het leuke van deze jurk, de cirkelrok zonder naad. hmmm. dan maar passend maken. Hup, 10cm korter, jaa! nu past ie wel. Met als gevolg dat het nu geen jurk meer is, maar meer een tuniek. Bovenstukje past in de breedte wel, maar mag bij de volgende iets langer. Ben ik blij dat ik hem niet in mijn mooiste stof gemaakt heb….Pfieuw… Toen kwamen we aan bij de zoom. En toen was ook mijn energie een beetje op. Hup terug de stapel op.
Printed, pasted and cut the pattern pieces. Then the skirt, this was a circle skirt without seam. Oh oh …. You’ll always see: Not enough fabric…. No matter how I would fold it, it didn’t fit . That was just the nice thing about this dress, the circle skirt without seam. Hhmmm, ok, let’s make it fit. I cut it 10cm shorter, yah! Now it fits!. As a result it is no longer a dress, but more of a tunic. Bodice fits in width, but i may make the next a little longer. I’m glad I didn’t make it in my finest fabric …. Relief!… But then the hem. And with it, my energy was also a little low. So back on the stash to be finished.
Een weekje later, kwam mijn moeder met haar naaimachine aan. Ik had haar gevraagd of zij siersteken op de machine had. (en ja dat heeft ze!) De machine is al een oudje, maar doet het nog steeds erg goed. Na een dagstudie (zo goed en zo kwaad als dat ging) was het dan gelukt. En toen was ik lekker op weg met de zoom en siersteek. O jee, toen liep ie vast…. oepsie, deze moest gesmeerd worden. Ja, ik heb geen olie in huis. Dus eerst daar achteraan. Toen die weer gesmeerd was, gauw verder met de zoom. Ja hoor, Af. Blij!!! Nu ik weet hoe de volgende moet worden, kan ik dit weekend (zodra mijn pijn mij dit toelaat) de jurk maken uit het mooie stofje.

A week later, my mother came with her sewing machine. I asked her if she had some decorative stitch on her machine. (And yes she has!) The machine is an oldie, but still doing very well. After a day study (as good and as bad as it was) i was succesful. Almost halfway with the hem, when the machine got stuck …. oepsie, it should be lubricated. Oh no, no oil. Had to get out en buy some. When it was done i could have another go. Yes, finished! Happy! Now I know how i would like it to be, I can have another go this weekend (when my pain permits) to make the dress in the beautiful fabric.
